Message From the CMS LibraryPosted by: CMS Webhelp 1 year ago
We all want kids to read more, and more importantly, we want them to enjoy reading! Motivation and choice are key when we think about building capable learners. As we all know, creating voracious readers doesn’t just happen; so how do we encourage and promote independent literacy? Below are some ways we can create a reading culture here at CMS:
- Set aside time for independent reading: Have your students come to the library! We can curate independent suggestions based on their interests.
- Read what your students are reading: The library has many resources for tracking trends and favorites. The interactive message board in the library is another great way to see wish list books picked by students.
- Encourage students to write book reviews: this is a great way for students to experiment with form, such as “book mark” snippets, or longer online reviews which can be featured on the library powerschool page. Suggested books built off these reviews encourage students to build on their peers and fosters a community of readers!
- Partner with the Library: We have SO MANY resources here!
