Welcome to Coronado Middle School 2018-2019 school year!
Welcome to the new school year! CMS is dedicated to supporting the learning and growth of every student on our campus, and we look forward to partnering with you to provide a rigorous, engaging, and top-notch middle school experience. CMS is continually recognized as a leader among middle schools throughout the state of California. As a Blue Ribbon School and a California Distinguished School, I’m proud of the dedicated and professional faculty and staff, talented and invested students, and our exceptionally supportive parents and community. CMS is committed to creating a culture that consistently upholds our vision, fosters a growth mindset, and empowers students to pursue and develop their passions.
Our district and site LCAP and vision provide a roadmap for all we do. CMS is committed to providing a nurturing, inspiring, and rigorous instructional program for each of our students.
Through our 1:1 bring your own device (BYOD) environment, our 21st century learners experience exciting academic opportunities that meet the needs of our broad range of learners and forge a path for tomorrow’s innovative, global thinkers.
Students also participate in many extracurricular clubs, sports, and field trips that support their middle school experience. The Islander Sports Foundation (ISF) offers a variety of sports for our student-athletes. The Coronado Recreation Department supports our lunch time activities and offers numerous after school and weekend events and classes.
We are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for ALL students. Students and parents are provided with information regarding our safety procedures and protocols, and we offer a variety of activities that support our character education program and promote kindness, citizenship, and personal wellness. In this digital age, it’s imperative that we monitor student use of technology, therefore I encourage you to take some time to review this informative and helpful parent resource. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/parent-concerns. The CMS students are consistently encouraged to be mindful in their actions toward one another, show respect and integrity to all, and uphold The 8 Keys of Excellence.
CMS is fortunate to benefit from our generous and committed Coronado community. The Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF) funding has enabled CMS to offer students experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) such as engineering, performing arts, digital media, coding, KCMS broadcast, hand-on labs, visual arts, and more. Our dedicated Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) continually supports our staff and students through special programs and recognitions. We are proud to partner with many other community organizations such as the City of Coronado, Coronado Police Department, Coronado Optimist Club, Rotary Club, Coronado Recreation Center, Coronado SAFE (Student and Family Enrichment), Islander Sports Foundation (ISF), Military Parent Group, Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC), and the United States Navy.
Middle school is an important and critical time of transition when students prepare for the bigger challenges of high school and learn to navigate their social and emotional lives. What happens during these few short years will make a lasting impression on their development and growth.
I’m dedicated to working with you to inspire your children to be the best version of themselves, foster their confidence, and recognize their strengths. I'm privileged to serve the students, staff and families of Coronado Middle School, and I look forward to an exciting and rewarding year as we CONNECT with you and your children, INVEST in providing them with the best middle school experience, and REFLECT on their successes!
